Fábrica das Artes, the department responsible for youth entertainment within Centro Cultural de Belém, invited my mother and me to develop a performance for the Music Rooms at the Big Bang Festival in Lisbon. My mother, Joana Bagulho, highly regarded portuguese harpsichordist, was to be in charge of the music, while I was to illustrate something. That was the brief for the 15 minutes performance. In May we started working on it, conceptualizing a story about Lisbon, our city, its changes, and how our mother-daughter relationship was to accommodate with my departure for England. Soon enough came the story of a young girl (me) travelling through Lisbon, exploring cultural aspects of our city that usually pass unnoticed for the mass tourism media. During that summer I created a very rudimentary animation, my first experience with it, more of a film made out of sequential illustrations. My mother decided to play contemporary music, composed by Daniel Schvetz, since there's rarely opportunity to expose young audiences to contemporary music (besides, played on harpsichord!). It was an amazing first experience as an "animator/director", and the performance was a success! After its premiere in Lisbon, it was selected to go on tour with the BigBang Festival in 2016.
