Been doing a festivals list, according to the months that one's suppose to send submissions. This can be helpful to my future-self, or other people who want to start sending their applications: Also, here's a useful guide for those starting out:
The performance "A Menina do Mar", for which I had the pleasure of illustrating the scenarios, is presented at Dias da Música festival, in Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, this weekend!
Currently studying Animation Ba(Hons) at University of the West of England. Here is my Animation Studies website:
The "Chase Scene" brief was the last one for the Level 1 of my Animation course. Brief = Create 20-30 seconds animation scene with two characters, one chasing the other. Making of: If you want to see more of the making of, explore my Animation Studies website:
Gathering some friends and drawing nudes! I wish we do this again. It was in 2014 that Fer invited me to sing in his new electronic pop-rock synth compositions. In the past three years I've been visiting Barcelona from time to time, to rehearse, record demos, record an album and give concerts (so far, only one). Being a pop-electronic vocalist is a very interesting challenge, and enriches one's life experiences as an eclectic artist! Here is the album: The album's debut was a concert on the 30th March, at the Fiestas Demoscópicas festival in Barcelona.
The course's briefs on Character Design or Concept Art are really motivating! To better understand this body of work, visit my Animation Studies website. To get used with the process of animatics, I've done a quick first experience on it, using a scene from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" as reference. Currently working on a second, more complex, version of the performance "Lisboa em Voo de Peixe". This time I wanted to make a better animation, less illustrated, more animated. Therefore, and with some of the budget for the project, I invited four colleagues to help me animate it. My mother is responsible for the music, I'm for the animation and a scene director, Caroline Bergeron, also engaged in the project. While in charge of the making of the animation, I'm a Director, Producer, Designer and Illustrator/Animator. It's been a great experience, learning how to communicate and manage a team. My colleagues are amazing, and helping me as much as possible, making it not my animation project, but our project. I've also asked a photographer, Pedro Tavares, to help by taking the photos when there are photographed backgrounds. I usually take initial photographs and send him these, which he uses as reference. It's going well so far, we hope everything can be finished by November! Sneak Peeks: "A Bayadere", commissioned illustration work for the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, is a children's book based on the performance currently on stage at Teatro Camões. The adaptation of the story was written by Diana Bastos Niepce, and I illustrated it. Minutes 12-16- The television programme "Literatura Aqui", with an interview to me and the writer:
(it's in portuguese) A few scanned pages from my most recent sketchbooks: Sold a few old drawings for affordable prices during this month. But never without first scanning it! Here they are: After its premiere in Lisbon, October 2015, the performance "Lisboa em Voo de Peixe" was selected to be presented again in 2016, for the Big Bang Festivals at Stavanger, Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels and Lille.
As a performer (briefly at the beginning of the performance) and encharged for the animation/decoration of the space, I accompanied my mother (the harpsichordist) on this tour. It was very interesting, being able to interact with such different audiences, and understand what children from different countries appreciated the most in the animation and the performance. I've been studying image composition for film, by analysing some film shots and sketching how it would look like as storyboards.
As funders of Elevate Young Minds, a platform that supports young artists in the uk, me, Edenamiuki Aiguobasinmwin and Inês Brito produced the event Young Minds Matter Lx, an eclectic cultural event celebrating juvenile art from Lisbon and the UK. The event was on the 3rd September 2016 at EKA Palace, Lisbon. Here is the link for the platform:
I'm very happy that I had the opportunity of singing in the song "Barzinhos", from Camisa. I have also done some illustrations for the band. Having this Foundation year to creatively explore Moving Image and Illustration was very enriching. Leeds College of Art is a marvellous place to study, and the course helped me expand my knowledge on general project development, art, design, critical thinking and problem solving. The tutors were supportive, engaged and helpful. This brief-based method really motivates me, and that reflects in my work. Here is a bit of the work developed during this one-year course:
For the Final Project I specialized in Moving Image, creating an experimental animation short titled "The Unlucky Man".
